The Tax Collector's Office is responsible for the billing and collection of real estate, personal property and motor vehicle taxes that comprise approximately 78% of the town's operating revenue. Sewer Use Fees are also collected under the direction of the Prospect Water Pollution Control Authority. The office operates under the authority of the Connecticut General Statutes.
Real Estate taxes amounting to more than $100 are due in two equal installments on July 1st and January 1st.
Personal Property taxes (business) amounting to more than $100 are due in two equal installments on July 1st and January 1st.
Motor Vehicle Taxes are due annually on July 1st for vehicles registered as of October 1st of the preceding year.
Supplemental Motor Vehicle taxes are due annually on January 1st for vehicles registered between October 1st and July 31st.
Sewer Use Fees are due annually on October 1st based on water usage from July 1st thru June 30th.Sewer Use fees are not available online.
Interest is charged on all late payments at the rate of 1 1/2 % per month (18% per annum) from the original due date on all delinquent taxes and sewer use fees.
